Woodworking.

Alongside my studies in Cabinetry and Wood Technology at Holmesglen TAFE, I’m also a member of Waverley Woodworkers Inc. During this time I’ve designed and built several personal projects, including a set of custom candle holders from a reclaimed bedpost I found on the side of the road. I milled the timber to size using a bandsaw, drilled the candle holes on the pedestal drill, and then shaped the curves on the belt sander. An arris was added to each edge, my name stamped underneath using jewellery stamps, and the final pieces were finished with cabinet makers wax. The holders can be arranged in different formations and showcase the beautiful end grain wave pattern.

I’ve also created a custom mallet inspired by Carl Auböck’s wrapped cutlery designs from the 1950s, as well as my SunChild Japanese pull-saw. The mallet features a Tasmanian Oak head and a rattan wrapped handle for comfort and grip, and has become a useful addition to my woodworking toolkit.
